MAINE OYSTER CULINARY RETREAT
SEPTEMBER 16-22, 2023
Coming Soon. . .
Meet me on Maine’s coast this Fall for an immersive culinary experience.
Nestled south of Bath on a tranquil peninsula, join Lady Oyster and Maine Oyster Company in Westpoint for our first annual retreat to shellfish paradise.
With a nickname like “Vacationland,” Maine attracts plenty of visitors in the summer who crave the state’s rocky coasts and lobster shacks. But far beyond the tourist’s purview is a coastline of secrets and local revelries. Maine’s cottage charm, jagged beauty, working waterfronts, and underground eats have propelled Maine into a food sophisticate’s dream where authentic food, travel, and community come together.
This is your chance to take your tastebuds on an elevated journey through table and tide. We will delight you in candlelit feasts on the waterfront. You’ll eat, drink, cook, and create alongside local pioneers in food and art. You’ll enjoy sunsets on beaches, hike along coasts, and slurp oysters fresh off the boat!
Accommodations | On a waterfront village in Westpoint, you’ll stay in series of authentic cottages with ocean views and lush vegetation. Wallace Circle’s quiet peninsula boasts 180-degree hilltop vistas, a private cove, a seaside lobster business, and Maine Oyster Company’s expansive tidal dock over the water’s edge.
Guests will have the option of (1) private guest houses, (2) rooms with private baths, and (3) rooms with shared baths (4) shared bunk rooms. Please inquire below for more details.
Food & Drink | You shall never be hungry, nor thirsty! All meals, snacks, cooking classes, and provisions will be included on our active group days. Light breakfasts with tea and coffee will be available every morning on Maine Oyster Company’s waterfront docks. Welcome cocktails, boat tour drinks, and your first wines with dinner will be included. We will be providing additional beer and wine for purchase at Base Camp.
Below is a tentative itinerary on what you can expect on this once-in-a-lifetime retreat.
It’s check-in day! We’ll start with welcome cocktails and bites at Basecamp.
We’ll include some casual, hands-on lessons on how-to-shuck and how-to-taste oysters!
We’ll take a farm tour of New Meadows River and try shucks right off the skiff at 3-4 different oyster farms.
An optional hike before dinner.
We’ll visit neighborhood lobsterman to pick out lobsters for the evening’s lobster bake.
In the morning, we’ll teach you about aquaculture on Cape Small’s farm. We’ll bring Maine beers, introduce you to an oyster float, and flip some cages!
Free afternoon time scheduled.
Evening: A seafood cooking class with a local chef.
We’ll have a relaxing morning around Wallace Circle and throw in a few great sessions with local oyster representatives and restoration groups.
Evening: An cookout and an art class with Jillian Herrigel, a local Maine artist!
Let’s visit the Damariscotta River! We’ll take an excursion to one of Maine’s most active oyster estuaries and introduce you to our favorite oyster shacks.
The evening will be a casual dinner followed by cocktails on “Positive Outlook’s” deck for stargazing.
This will be a free day! We’ll start you off with breakfast and give you insider itineraries for places like Portland, Wiscasset, Boothbay, Popham Beach, Bath, and Freeport so you can explore Maine’s quaint New England towns on your own.
The lodge will always be open for an evening wine and nibbles.
It’s check-out day. We’ll host a final farewell breakfast on Maine’s gorgeous waterfront.
