Slurping Selects at Select Oyster Bar
Wedged right in between quaint old Commonwealth Ave. and a bustling Boylston St., you'll find Select Oyster Bar, which doesn't seem at all too fussed if you walk in from right or left, as long as you're ready for seafood and chill.
Thanks to Michael Serpa, oyster extraordinaire for taking the plunge from Neptune to open up his own spot. I'd welcome an oyster joint on every street corner if I could, so this narrow, sparkly bar on Gloucester nestles in right where a demand is hot.
The menu is - dare I say - a healthy - Mediterranean/Modern American, low carb fare. Damn, it's good too. The staff is relaxed and knowledgeable on the entire menu and bar. We listened to one of their bartenders talk post-meal digestives with a customer for about 30 minutes. I soon discovered that one of my favorite bartenders from Elephant Walk, Sarah, popped up there and it felt right at home.
I believe these guys work in partnership with Island Creek's Distributors, which offer a great selection.
Oysters:
Ichabod's, Plymouth, MA
East Beach Blonde's, Ningret Pond, RI
Glidden Point, Damariscotta, ME
I had East Beach Blondes at the Newport Oyster Festival and they were one of my favorites that day. Petite with an punch :)
Want a pairing that's affordable, light with oysters, and a good time? Try a 40L bottle of the Muscadet. It's a specialty there and we left seeing stars....
